Penn IUR Project Spotlight: ESCI Knowledge Sharing Platform

Penn IUR is supporting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Energy Smart Communities Initiative (ESCI), which promotes environmentally sustainable and energy efficient urban development to meet the goal of reducing energy intensity (energy use per gross domestic policy) by 45% by 2030. There is an urgent need to develop more sustainable cities as population centers are already home to more than half of the world’s population and account for a large majority of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions along with a host of other environmental pollution. Penn IUR developed a Knowledge Sharing Platform as part of its work with ESCI and is currently curating the database of best practice case studies demonstrating effective energy conservation in the building, transportation, and energy sector, as well as job development and training programs. In order to promote the contribution of case studies to the platform, Penn IUR and its partner, the Taiwan Institute for Economic Research, are recognizing stand-out case studies with the ESCI-KSP Best Practices Award. All cases submitted prior to December 15th will be considered in the contest and the awards (3 in each category) will be announced at the APEC Energy Working Group meeting in Singapore in April 2017.
