The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos screening

The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos is a fictionalization of ongoing evictions in a waterfront settlement in Lagos. Organized by Weitzman City Planning PhD candidate Sika Gadzanku in collaboration with Penn IUR and partners, the film sits right at the center of waterfront eviction, displacement, and urban informality.

Written and directed by the Agbajowo Collective, this film was inspired by the 2017 forced eviction of the Otodo Gbame, a Lagos waterfront community of 30,000 people. In the film, Jawu, a young mother from a waterfront slum in Lagos, stumbles upon corrupt blood money marked for a real estate development that threatens her home. Overcoming isolation and temptation, she must stand as a unifying force in a community that stands to lose everything. The screening will be held:
