In a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette feature, Penn IUR Faculty Fellow Erick Guerra of the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design offers an important reality check on how autonomous vehicles should be judged:
“They’re substantially safer than an average U.S. driver,” he notes, but that’s the wrong comparison. “They should be compared to a professional driver operating a new vehicle, because that’s essentially what it is. It’s a taxi.”
