On October 2, 2014 Penn IUR hosted the Captured by the City: Perspectives in Urban Culture Studies panel discussion. The panel was composed of Michael M. Samuelian, Vice President, Related Companies; Josef Luciano, film instructor, City University of New York; Jake Sudderth, Director of Research, CTC (City Town Country) Research; and Anne Rivers, Senior Vice President and Director of Brand Strategy, BAV Consulting. The discussion began with Jake Sudderth briefly reviewing examples of public and private development and adaptive reuse. Josef Luciano then discussed his research on sound in the public space as a behavior modifier. Michael Sameuelian presented the Hudson Yards project in New York City and talked about cultural institutions and public space created by private development. Anne Rivers, who worked with Samuelian during the research phase of the Hudson Yards, facilitated a break-out session where the audience discussed valuable factors that define work, life and play. The audience then engaged in a Q & A session with the panelists.
