Penn IUR is pleased to announce the kickoff of a competition hosted by Sustainable Solutions, a project that aims to identify and implement student-led sustainability projects that tackle some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sustainable Solutions will host a kickoff event on November 30, 2018 from 5-6 pm in Huntsman Hall F85 for any Penn students (undergraduate and graduate) who would like to learn more about the competition. Sustainable Solutions invites Philadelphia high school and college students to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goals through project-based solutions. This year's competition theme is Localizing the SDGs, and students will work in teams of two to six to address the most urgent sustainability issues in Philadelphia. Students will undertake projects in Philadelphia that fall in one of two categories: “Health of our Environment” and “Sustainability of our City.” For more information about Sustainable Solutions and the competition, visit

The kickoff event will allow students to learn about the competition, hear from community leaders in sustainability issues, and network with potential partners, judges, and planning committee members. All interested Penn undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to attend.

Sustainable Solutions is a project created by Richard Ling ’20, who was named Millennium Fellow and is Director of Penn’s Millennium Fellows program. The project is sponsored by Penn IUR, Wharton Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership, The Green Program, Essity North America, and The Kleinman Center for Energy Policy.
