Penn IUR and the MUSA program were pleased to invite back to PennDesign, Lauren Gilchrist, Manger of Research and Analysis at Philadelphia’s Center City District (CCD). She gave a presentation and workshop on “Using Local Employment Dynamics Data for Small Area Research.” The session focused on the Local Employment Dynamics data from the Census Bureau, including a short tutorial on how to use the data in OnTheMap, describe how it has been used for research at Center City District, and a demonstration of its creative use in CCD’s Defining Downtown Study. This was an excellent opportunity for those interested in economic development, metropolitan policy, and regional planning to learn about the work that CCD is doing to analyze metropolitan employment centers and to empirically “define” downtown.
