Alan Schnitzer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Travelers Companies, Inc., one of America’s largest property casualty insurers and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Schnitzer served in a series of key leadership roles at Travelers, including as President of the company’s Business Insurance and Bond & Specialty Insurance segments. He joined Travelers in 2007 as Vice Chairman and Chief Legal Officer, overseeing a broad portfolio of corporate functions. Before joining Travelers, Schnitzer was a partner in the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, were he advised corporate clients and boards on a variety of transaction and corporate governance matters.
Schnitzer serves on the boards of the University of Pennsylvania, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and New York City Ballet. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Schnitzer earned his undergraduate degree in finance and accounting from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
A native of Dallas, Texas and longtime New York City resident, Schnitzer and his wife, Anne, have two children.
