Andrew Johnson is an ORISE Fellow, Perelman School of Medicine and Penn Institute for Urban Research, University of Pennsylvania . His current work focuses on urban complexity, including the modeling of pedestrian movement and the use of digital twin cities to address the looming threat of extreme urban heat. He earned his PhD in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he applied classical ecological theory to study the assembly and dynamics of the gut microbiome.
He has previously served as a Fellow for Interdisciplinary Innovation at Penn and as a graduate fellow at Perry World House, the university’s hub for global affairs and public policy, where he focused on biodefense and society.
