Matthew Freedman is a Dean's Professor of Economics at the University of California, Irvine. His research interests lie at the intersection of urban economics, public finance, and labor economics. His current work examines how federal, state, and local housing, economic development, and transportation programs affect neighborhoods and the individuals living in them. His research also explores segregation within cities and the local labor, capital, and housing market dynamics that give rise to differential patterns of inequality across metropolitan areas. Freedman was previously an Associate Professor of Economics at Drexel University and at Cornell University, and has held visiting positions at the Wharton School and Princeton University. Freedman's research has been published in leading economics journals including the Review of Economics and Statistics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Human Resources, and the Journal of Urban Economics.
