Yun-Myong (Yunnis) Yi is affiliated with the Environment Planning Institute in Seoul National University (SNU), South Korea. Her current research examines the historical context of the development process of traditional markets in Korea (1950s to 1980s). She is also interested in urban consumption culture, farmers markets, livability, and post-industrial urban societies. Graduating from SNU with her PhD in Urban and Regional Planning (2017), Yun-Myong’s previous research has been focused on urban revitalization and traditional retail markets (such as old street markets and marketplaces) in Seoul. Her research examined factors influencing vacancy rates and annual revenue performance of these markets. It also investigated popular traditional markets among tourists and visitors by conducting semantic analyses of text data; specifically, she used blogging reviews and diaries to explore the experiences of visitors. Between 2009 to 2011, Yun-Myong worked for the Korea Institute of Public Administration. Prior to that, she studied at Columbia University in New York for her M.S. in Urban Planning.
