Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – April 22, 2013 – Eugenie Birch, co‐director of the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR), Lawrence C. Nussdorf Professor of Urban Research and Education in the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of City and Regional Planning, and Chair of the Graduate Group in City Planning, has been awarded the 2013 American Planning Association (APA) President’s Award. The award is given every other year in recognition of leadership in the field of planning.
The award was presented on April 16, 2013 at the APA’s 2013 National Planning Conference in Chicago. American Planning Association President Mitchell Silver presented Birch with the award, lauding her contributions to the fields of urban planning and design.
The American Planning Association is an independent, not‐for‐profit educational organization that provides leadership in the development of vital communities by advocating excellence in community planning, promoting education and citizen empowerment, and providing the tools and support necessary to meet the challenges of growth and change.
