Penn IUR First Annual Scavenger Hunt to Highlight Penn Urban History and Resources

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – October 12, 2015 –The Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) is pleased to announce its first annual scavenger hunt, a unique event to be held this afternoon on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus. The scavenger hunt will allow participants to explore the unique urban history of Penn’s campus and learn more about urban-focused resources and opportunities at Penn.

The event, co-sponsored by the Urban Studies program, the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF) and the Student Sustainability Association at Penn (SSAP), will allow participants to explore the Penn campus through a Twitter-based scavenger hunt. After receiving clues via Twitter, participants (either as individuals or in groups) will document their scavenger hunt and Penn’s urban history through photos and tweets. The event will culminate in a celebration and reception in a location that will be disclosed via clues.

The reception will include prizes for participants, as well as the opportunity to engage with representatives from various urban-focused organizations at Penn. Students can learn more about Penn IUR’s Undergraduate Urban Research Colloquium (UURC), urban undergraduate research opportunities, urban courses offered across campus, student sustainability organizations and their activities, and other Penn IUR initiatives. Important things to know:

• Clues will be released on Twitter (@penniur) at noon on Oct 12, 2015. Participants will have from 12 - 4pm to find and document their clues at their convenience.
• Winners will be announced at the reception. This is not a timed scavenger hunt; prizes are based on participants’ creativity.
• A celebratory reception with food, drinks, and prizes will be held from 4 - 5pm at a location that will be announced on social media via Twitter (@penniur).
• At the finish line representatives from all sponsoring organizations will be available to discuss undergraduate research opportunities, urban courses, and sustainability initiatives.
