PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – October 16, 2014 –The Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) is pleased to announce “Urban Fiscal Stability and Public Pensions: Sustainability Going Forward,” a unique event that will be held on November 11, 2014 to address one of our country’s most pressing urban issues: the financial health of cities.
As cities throughout the country grapple with financial crisis, they are increasingly looking for real, actionable solutions to achieve fiscal stability. This event will bring together expert voices on the issue, including academics and practitioners from city government and federal agencies. Together these experts will consider the complex fiscal issues facing cities, focusing on the legacy issues of the funding of pensions, and looking forward to strategies that will support financial sustainability.
Featured speakers include Joshua Rauh, Professor of Finance, Stanford Graduate School of Business and Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University; Richard Ravitch, former Lieutenant Governor of New York; Rob Dubow, Director of Finance, City of Philadelphia; Matt Fabian, Managing Director, Municipal Market Advisors; Robert Inman, Richard King Mellon Professor of Finance, Professor of Business Economics & Public Policy, Professor of Real Estate, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Mathew McCubbins, Professor of Law and Political Science, Duke Law; Olivia Mitchell, Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy and Executive Director of the Pension Research Council, The Wharton School; Amy Monahan, Julius E. Davis Professor of Law, University of Minnesota Law School; Robin Prunty, Managing Director, Standard & Poor’s Public Finance Ratings; and James Spiotto, Managing Director, Chapman Strategic Advisors LLC.
This event, co-sponsored by Next City and made possible with support from Melanie and Lawrence C. Nussdorf, is free and open to the public. It will be held on November 11, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the University of Pennsylvania’s Van Pelt Library, 6th floor pavilion. Registration is required.
