Rolf Pendall is Professor and chair of the Department of Community & Regional Planning at the University of New Mexico. He has more than 40 years experience as a practitioner, scholar, and educator on urban growth and development issues, including land-use planning and regulation; federal, state, and local affordable housing policy and programs; metropolitan growth patterns; and racial residential segregation and the concentration of poverty. Pendall joined the University of Illinois as department head after having been center director, codirector, and Institute fellow in the Urban Institute‚ Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center from 2010 to 2018. Pendall was previously an associate professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Cornell University. He holds an MA in Latin American studies and MS in community and regional planning from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD in city and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
