Penn IUR is pleased to welcome its newest Faculty Fellows, Practitioners, and Affiliated PhD students. Our newest affiliates join a dynamic network of urbanists who, through Penn IUR’s programming, have unique opportunities to collaborate on issues impacting today’s cities.

Penn IUR’s affiliated faculty and practitioners are experts in the field of urbanism, and collaborate with us on research and related projects. They include Penn IUR Faculty Fellows, who are distinguished urban-focused scholars based at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn IUR Scholars, who are leading urban-focused academics at other institutions, and Penn IUR Fellows, who are practitioners from across the United States and around the world. Our Fellows and Scholars have deep expertise in the field of urbanism, and are important contributors to understanding our changing cities.

This year, we are pleased to continue to expand our Affiliated PhD student program, which recognizes PhD students at Penn who are undertaking an urban-focused course of study at the University of Pennsylvania. Through our network PhDs Penn IUR nurtures a community of urban-focused doctoral students, providing opportunities to present research and learn from one-another.

Penn IUR is dedicated to an increased understanding of cities through cross-disciplinary research, instruction, and civic engagement. As the global human population becomes increasingly urban, understanding cities is vital to informed decision-making and public policy at the local, national, and international levels. Penn IUR is dedicated to developing knowledge in three critical areas: innovative urban development strategies; building the sustainable and inclusive 21st-century city; and the role of anchor institutions in urban places. We believe that our Fellows, Scholars and Students’ contributions to the study of urban life help us deepen and diversify the multi-disciplinary knowledge that we seek to cultivate at Penn IUR.
