Announcement July 16, 2014 Penn IUR's Mark Alan Hughes to lead new Kleinman Center for Energy Policy Penn IUR Faculty Fellow Mark Alan Hughes will lead the new Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, established at PennDesign with a $10 million gift from Scott, C'94, W'94, and Wendy Kleinman. The Center, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2014, will advance energy productivity by reframing the relationship between research and practice in support of policy innovation.

Announcement July 15, 2014 Penn IUR Co-Director Genie Birch Presents on Urban Development in Taiwan and Korea Penn IUR Co-Director Genie Birch traveled to Asia this month to give two papers, one on industry park development and the other on human settlements. She presented the first paper, titled “Regenerating Industrial Areas for City Competitiveness: From Science Parks to Innovation Districts,” on July 8 at the 2014 Symposium on Industry Park Development Policy sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning at National Taiwan University. On July 10th, she presented “Local and Global Discussions: Cities and Human Settlements” at the Korea Research Institute on Human Settlements (KRIS).

Announcement June 20, 2014 Penn IUR Awarded Pew Center Grant to Explore the 21st Century Urban Monument The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage (the Center), has awarded a $72,000 grant to the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR) and curators Ken Lum, A. Will Brown and Paul M. Farber for a project titled “Monument Lab: Creative Speculations for Philadelphia.” The project will explore the questions: What is the ideal monument for the current City of Philadelphia and what does a 21st century urban monument look like?
