John Landis is Professor Emeritus of City and Regional Planning in the Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania. From 2009 through 2017, he served as the chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning. Prior to arriving at Penn in 2007, Landis was on the planning faculties of the University of California-Berkeley (1987–2007), Georgia Tech (1985–1986), and the University of Rhode Island (1983–1984). Professor Landis is the editor and primary author of Megaprojects for Megacities: A Comparative Casebook (Edward Elgar, 2022) and the author of the upcoming book, Big Cities, Bold Moves, Good Outcomes: A Success Manual for Global Cities (2027). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Planning, an international planning journal published by Elsevier.  His current research is focused on how artificial intelligence can benefit cities and the global practice of city planning.
