Lu YE, PhD, serves as Professor at Soochow University, and as Director of the Suzhou Research Institute of Rural Protection and Development of Chinese Historical and Cultural Cities. Her principal research interests are focused on regional architecture and the construction of rural community. Her book, Design Intervention in Contemporary Rural Construction (2022), is a comprehensive examination of Chinese contemporary rural construction since 1949. This book goes beyond the technical aspects of design to consider the social aspects of rural construction in China. In additional to her professional certifications, she holds the distinction of being certified as a National Level Registered Architect of China and a Registered Architect of France.

She is a visiting scholar at the Penn Institute for Urban Research from 2025 to 2026. Her current areas of research include a project funded by the National Nature Science Foundation of China, entitled "Adaptive Ageing Mechanisms and Optimization Strategies of Rural Public Spaces in Highly Urbanized Areas”. In addition, she is conducting research on the changes and characteristics of spatial forms that occur in the urban-rural interface, with a focus on design methods based on these observations.
