Aromar Revi is the founding Director of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, which he has help build into a leading urban education, research, and practice institution. He is a global practice and thought leader, educator and institution builder with 40 years of local to global interdisciplinary experience. He is leading climate scientist and CLA of multiple IPCC reports and Co-Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
Aromar' policy, practice and research work lie across four themes: sustainable development and sustainability science; sustainable urbanisation and ‘urban science’; climate action and climate science; and disaster risk reduction and risk science. He has deep governance, management and implementation experience, across public, private, and civil society institutions. Aromar has led over 235 major practice, consulting and research assignments in a dozen areas and is a top-10 globally cited scholar across half a dozen fields.
He has been a senior advisor to the Government of India and UN agencies, consulted with national and international development institutions and firms on urban, economic , governance and environmental change from local to global scale. He is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi and the Law and Management schools of the University of Delhi.
